Going Out

NaPoWriMo day twenty seven. For poem number twenty seven I have gone with today’s NaPoWriMo suggested prompt to write a hay(na)ku. The hay(na)ku is, apparently, a variant on the haiku. To quote NaPoWriMo “A hay(na)ku consists of a three-line stanza, where the first line has one word, the second line has two words, and the third line has three words. You can write just one, or chain several together into a longer poem” so here’s my take on it. This poem’s called Going Out.

Going Out

Soak

in bath,

shave legs smooth.

Clean

teeth, cream

face and body. Continue reading “Going Out”

Heartache

NaPoWriMo day nine and here’s poem number eight. I have almost caught up, what excitement. This one is called Heartache…

I don’t want the sun to shine

it won’t sit well with me today.

I want to stand out in the rain

and wash away this misery.

Let the rain come cruel and fast

batter, bruise and soak my flesh

until my body feels the hurt

I carry somewhere deep within.

Let it splash against my face

to hide the tears I shed for you.

I want to cry until I ache,

and I am cold, hard and spent.

Two Cuppas.

NaPoWriMo Day 14. Today’s poem is called Two Cuppas. It’s a sort of story in a poem and it’s written after after Roddy Doyle’s, Two Pints which is a very funny book about the conversations had between two men who meet regularly for a pint in a Dublin pub.

Two Cuppas

Did you hear about Christina’s eldest?

Which one is that then?

Katrina.

Is that the one with the orange face?

She’s always been headstrong that one.

Big hair? Continue reading “Two Cuppas.”

Boy with Pearl Earring

NaPoWriMo Day 12 and it’s Saturday so I’ve started early before going out for a long walk to get some fresh air and hopefully more inspiration. Today’s poem is called Boy with Pearl Earring.

Boy with Pearl Earring

For three mornings now

you’ve passed us by

tight leather jacket;

hair perfectly set;

scarf meticulously wrapped Continue reading “Boy with Pearl Earring”

Shit

Day 4 and the next instalment of NaPoWrimo. This is for everyone who wakes up to the reality that they’ve been sold down the line one way or another. There’s a lot of it about lately.

Shit

Sold on the false economy of your promises

I believed you were true.

Hooked on the desire for honesty

I told myself that you were the one

The one

The one who…

Then a heavy dose of reality

Showed me, too late,

It’s all just a series of fairy tales.

Same shit
