Sleepless

NaPoWriMo Day 19 and today’s poem is called Sleepless, actually written at roughly three-thirty this morning. Is the NaPoWriMo thing beginning to get to me I wonder?

Sleepless

It’s one-thirty in the morning

and I’m lying here eyes open

trying not to think about

things I shouldn’t think about

two-thirty in the morning and

the tune inside my head is

distracting and annoying

and I’m feeling too alert

so I edge out of the bed

trying not to wake you but

my creaking bones betray

me and I see that you are

stirring but then it’s all okay

because its only momentary

and you’re sleeping like a baby

so I creep across the floor then

slip out through the door at

three-thirty in the morning

I’m the only one not sleeping
