NaPoWriMo Day 17 and today’s poem is called Manhood.
Manhood
Begrudgingly, you allow a peck.
I squeeze your giant frame
and we both feel discomfort.
Me because I miss that small, vulnerable being
who placed his hand in mine
and walked with me through magic worlds;
who looked to me for strength
and ran to me in times of joy and pain;
who thought I knew the rules of life
and found out, too soon, that I did not.
You because you are a man now
and no longer need me to be your anchor.
You have your own world and, though
you sometimes let me walk with you,
I am no longer guiding you through it.
I know the feeling. You put it very well.
Thanks Jane. Nice to know I’m not alone
