New Baby

NaPoWriMo day twenty five. Here is poem number twenty four, it’s called New Baby…

Once they were a couple

who stayed out late and drank in bars

when the mood took them.

Once they slept late and whiled away weekends

pursuing hobbies that gave them pleasure enough.

Now they are parents.

Late nights are the time for feeding

and listening out for snuffles and tears.

Mornings are early and pleasure comes in the shape

of a small bundle lying helpless in their arms.

They talk of those days of couple-dom with fondness.

Yes it was fun but this, this is real

Once they were a couple,

now they are a family.

Lullaby Lady

NaPoWriMo day twelve and here’s poem number twelve. It’s called Lullaby Lady

Hush Baby hush, no more tears.

You’ve cried enough to fill the day.

Shush Baby shush, prick up your ears

the Lullaby Lady is on her way.

She’ll rock you gently in your bed

singing to you low and sweet

and softly kiss your careworn head.

Hush now Baby go to sleep.

She’ll tuck you in and blow out the light

so sleep now dearest.

Good night, sleep tight.

I thought I’d make it extra difficult for myself by writing in rhyming couplets which I have to say is one of the hardest pieces of writing I’ve ever done. Hopefully the result is not too disastrous

Let me sit by the canal side

Let me sit by the canal side

where I can watch the barges glide

through deep and narrow waterways

cut by men in bygone days. Continue reading “Let me sit by the canal side”
