Heartache

NaPoWriMo day nine and here’s poem number eight. I have almost caught up, what excitement. This one is called Heartache…

I don’t want the sun to shine

it won’t sit well with me today.

I want to stand out in the rain

and wash away this misery.

Let the rain come cruel and fast

batter, bruise and soak my flesh

until my body feels the hurt

I carry somewhere deep within.

Let it splash against my face

to hide the tears I shed for you.

I want to cry until I ache,

and I am cold, hard and spent.

A Love Quickie

NaPoWriMo Day 25. Today’s poem is a very short one because it is a Haiku poem, inspired by the comedian Frank Skinner who I went to see last night.

Frank read out several of his Haiku poems to the audience & it made me think about having a go at one, although I decided not to go with Frank’s theme which was to end every one of his poems with the line “like a Transformer.” It was funny at the time.

A Love Quickie

I lost my heart in

San Francisco but found it

in a park in Maine.

And here’s the Birmingham version

I lost my heart in

Cradley Heath but found it by

a Dudley canal.

The Lady of the Moor

NaPoWriMo Day 22. Today’s poem is inspired by a prompt by NaPoWriMo on day 18 which was to try to write a ruba’i which is a four-line stanza, with a rhyme scheme of AABA. Robert Frost’s famous poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening uses this rhyme scheme. Not sure how successful it is but it felt like I should try something a bit gothic so here goes

The Lady of the Moor

In the ruins on a clear winter’s night
when the moon is full and bright
it’s said there appears the ghostly sight
of the Lady of the Moor

Upon her head sits a braided crown
long silver hair flowing down
covering a near translucent gown
she searches for love that cannot be found. Continue reading “The Lady of the Moor”
