At the end of every month I send out a newsletter to my Readers’ Club. I cover all sorts of things from book news to what’s going on in my life right now. July’s newsletter was mostly about some of the characters in the Netta Wilde series, or more specifically, how I came to choose them.
You might be interested to hear that the idea of Netta came from a short story I wrote while taking a fiction writing course. The story was about a woman who has nothing else in her life beside her job who finds out she’s about to be made redundant.
The character intrigued me so much that I wrote a second story about her being told in the middle of a restaurant that her family didn’t want her anymore. After that, she just seemed to be the obvious choice to base my first novel on.

If you’ve read Being Netta Wilde, you’ll know those two stories found their way into the book. If you haven’t read it and you like the sound of it, it will be available from 12th September in eBook, paperback and large print formats, but you can pre-order it now. It will also be in Kindle Unlimited from that date.
By the way, if you haven’t already joined my Readers’ Club, you can do so here. You’ll get a free novella to help with the wait for 12th September.
